How to Work out How Much Used Cars Are Worth

If you ever need to buy or sell a used car then knowing how to value them is a worthwhile piece of knowledge. The value of a used car can be worked out in a number of different ways. Of course, it will always depend on the condition of the car, the amount of mileage, and the car type. Here are some tips about figuring out the worth of used cars. But according to some, the most accurate value of any used car is the amount that someone is prepared to pay for it.

- There are now many used car magazines where you can look at the going rate for different types of car. If you find a car in one of those magazines that has similar specifications to the car you are buying or selling, you will be able to get a fair idea of what it is worth.

- You can find magazines and resources online that will give you a value of a car dependent on different criteria

- You can also find the value of the car by using one of the internet’s many valuation services.

- Or you could use the formula that many use for working out the value of a used car according to its age. This involves taking off 24% for the fact that a car is second hand and then 6% for every year since it was bought new. So a car that was bought for a price of £10,000 will only be worth £7,600 six months later after 24% has been taken off. Another six percent would then have to be deducted once the car was a year old and another six percent for each year after that. But this formula is only used to get a rough estimate.

Not only will age be a deciding factor, but mileage and condition of the car should also be factored in when determining a value for a used car. A two year old motor that has spent most of the time parked and has been well looked after will be worth more than a badly maintained two year old car.

Whenever you happening to be looking for used cars for sale, you may end up much better off by thoroughly researching the cars that interest you. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. When your research is done, you could very well end up with a great used austin or even a used catarham.

Fraud Scams Involving Used Cars Increases in UK

The recent tough economic times has also created an increase in fraud scams involving used cars. The situation with the economy has led to sharp increases in the number of people who are turning to this crime in order to make some money. There is a lot of money to be made through this type of scam and this is proving too tempting for many individuals. Things have gotten so bad that the Finance and leasing Association (FLA) has issued warnings to anyone considering purchasing used cars. There can be so many problems for those who actually get caught out by these scams. Not only does it mean a loss of money, but it will also involve repossession of used cars that the new owners have been fooled into buying.

The cars that are sold under these fraud scams usually still have money owed to a finance company or bank. The car which is bought can never actually be the property of the buyer as it wasn’t the sellers to sell in the first place. This type of scam is known as conversion fraud and it is currently responsible for about 40% of scams involving used cars according to FLA.

It can be very upsetting for the person who is the victim of this type of crime as they can lose a lot of money. Even though you have paid for the car in good faith you will not own it and the car will be taken back by the finance company. You will be left with nothing at all. That’s the reason why used car buyers need to be more vigilant when looking for a used car. They need to make sure that anything they are considering buying has does not have finance owing on it.

This reserach will let you find the best cars available for each category you look at. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used toyota avensis or even a used vw passat.

How to Read Ads for Used Cars

If you are looking through the classified for used cars then you may be confused as to what the ads are actually saying. If you do not understand what you are reading you could end up going to view a car that isn’t what you were looking for at all. Worse still you might even buy it. Here are some tips for reading classified ads for used cars.

- The abbreviations and what they stand for should be fully understood. These include things like; 4CYL four cylinder, 2WD two wheel drive, 4WD four wheel drive, AC air conditioning, 4-DR four door, All PWR this means everything in the car is powered including locks, mirrors and windows, ABS airlock brakes, WARR warranty, SNRF- sun roof, RBLT rebuilt, TINT tinted windows, PS power steering, OFR offer, OBO or best offer, MINT in excellent condition, and LTHR leather.

- The advert that you are reading will usually have some kind of description relating to the condition of the car. You may find that the advert also includes abbreviations here as well such as; clean CLN, good condition G COND and excellent condition EX COND.

- The ad should come with the year and millage and you should check to see if this is going to be suitable for your needs.

- There will usually be a guideline price in the classified too. If you see OBO or OFR then you can take this as a sign that you will be allowed to haggle a bit. Unless somebody else offers more than you are offering.

So if you are going to look in the classified section of the local newspaper then you must really know what the abbreviations are and be able to read the ads. There are many abbreviations used, and sometimes people even make up their own.
