Recent years have seen a huge increase in the number of people making complaints about their dealings with those involved in selling used cars. One of the main complaints has been about ‘clockers’ who are people that tamper with the odometer on a car in order to make it look as though it has a lower mileage. This just results in the people that buy these used cars thinking that the cars have not been used as much as they really have. Now two scam car dealers have been fined £100,000 by Brent & Harrow Trading Standards for what is believes to be one of the biggest clocking scams ever.
It was only brought to light when a woman who saw her old car that she had part exchanged with these dealers advertised online with a lower mileage than it had had when she exchanged it. This gave her the incentive to contact the previous owner of the car she had just bought and she was shocked to discover that the car had been sold to her with a mileage which was 45000 miles less than it should have been. So she contacted Brent & Harrow Trading Standards straight away to make a complaint. An investigation showed that it was not just her car that had been tampered with in this manner; at least 320 other used cars had suffered similar tampering.
Both buyers and sellers are affected by the actions of these scam artists. There are already bad impressions of the industry and these actions are only going to make it worse. So that is why it is really good that these clockers have been fined as much as they have. It is hoped that this fine will deter other dealers from carrying out the same practices although many feel it will not do much good. I’m sure if we really knew the full extent we would be deeply shocked.
If the time has come for you to be searching out used cars for sale, it’s always best to carry out a proper research ahead of time. Good research lets you find only the best models available. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used cadillac or even a used daewoo.

There is nothing wrong with being a little bit nervous when you are driving. In actual fact it might be a good thing as it may mean that you are a more careful driver and less likely to take chances when driving. But some nervous drivers are actually more likely to have little accidents which is why used cars could be a better choice of car for a while at least. A high proportion of anxious drivers will have only recently passed their driving test and it really makes sense for them to avoid a new car in the beginning.
The Advantages Of Used Cars For Nervous Drivers
It can be easier to make mistakes when you are behind the wheel if you are anxious when you are driving. Many of these mistakes will be quite minor but they can still cause you to get scratches or dents on your car. If you look at the cars of most new drivers you will see plenty of telltale bumps and scratches. You really need to get some experience behind the wheel of your car before you will become more confident regardless of whether or not you have passed your driving test. If you choose to drive a used car while gaining that experience you won’t mind so much about getting a few scratches here and there.
Getting your first scratch or dent on a brand new car that you have bought can be quite a bit upsetting. This is when you realise that your brand new car has now become a used car. The majority of drivers will want to avoid this from happening for as long as they can. If you have only just passed your driving test then this could happen in a matter of weeks after you have bought the car and it could leave you feeling very upset. So for nervous drivers, used cars are probably a much better option until more experience has been gained.
When you think it’s time to look out for used cars for sale, you may end up much better off by thoroughly researching the cars that interest you. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used alfa romeo or even a used bmw.

When it comes to purchasing used cars some people are a bit more naive than others. Some people give the impression that they are soft touches and when the sales people see them coming they begin to rub their hands in glee. If you appear to be more na¯ve than others it is highly likely that you could end up paying more than you should for a used car or you could end up buying a piece of junk. Here are some tips to help you look a bit savvier.
- Try not to talk too much to the salesperson and do not appear too eager. There is nothing wrong with being friendly but you should not seem too friendly. It is better if you let the seller do the majority of the work and try to say as little as possible. Many will let information slip in an attempt to fill the silence. For those selling used cars privately this is more likely to happen.
- Limit the amount of praise that you give to any used cars that you are looking at. Telling the seller how much you like a particular car could mean that he is unlikely to come down in price.
- Make a list of the questions that you would like the seller to answer about the used car.
- Inspect the car completely. It is important to take someone with you who knows about cars if you don’t know much at all.
- When buying a used car, especially from a private seller, you must make sure that you are shown any relevant paperwork.
- Try not to be pushed into buying something that you do not want.
- Be sure to negotiate on the price of the car and do not stop until you are sure that the seller will not go any lower. The owner will have two prices in their heads; the most they hope to get and the minimum they are willing to sell for. It is up to you to get the price down to the minimum.
Whenever you happening to be looking for used cars, you may end up much better off by thoroughly researching the cars that interest you. This reserach will let you find the best cars available for each category you look at. Once you’ve finished, you could find youself driving away from the dealers in a used cars western isles or even a used cars ashford.
